Intro to Romance
I'm new to reading the romance genre. I was one of those women who couldn't get past the stupid ass covers with the Fabio type men and buxom women. Then a friend of mine (Meg) told me to read Christine Feehan's Lair of Lion and yank, I was hooked. Then she force fed me some Kathleen Woodwiss and Johanna Lindsey which I must say: slurp, I digested them just fine. Next thing I knew I had somehow gotten ahead of her on our book list. I snarfed up everything in sight. I guess I've slowed down a bit now because well it's hard to find a good book sometimes and lately I've bought up a lot of heinous books. I mean shit! I picked up Carly Phillips first book because I remembered way back when Kelly Rippa went on and on about The Bachelor. Well Brazen hit the wall after I couldn't get past the third chapter. I couldn't identify with the wimpy heroine HAVING to marry a man she didn't love. I mean damn she's the reason I never picked up romance before Meg. I don't know if I will even give The Bachelor a chance now.
I was reading a blog by bookseller chick and couldn't resist commenting. She was talking about authors you don't really like anymore but can't put down and I have a few of my own.
Laurell K Hamilton- I liked her books for about a month. Then all the porn started getting to me. Who will Anita and Merry not screw? But damn it, I still have her books on auto buy. It's like a train wreck... I can't look away.
Christine Feehan- I loved her Carpathian men, but come on, where did the originality go? If you read one the rest follow the same formula. (Still on auto buy...crap).
Connie Mason- Whimpering anemic women are imperative (snivel), but did you read Caress and Conquer? The heroine, Amanda should have flogged the "hero" for all the horrible things that happened to her. Double damn I couldn't put the book down and I still may buy Mason's books.
Amanda Quick- Actually... never really liked her books, but read a few. Ha! Not on auto buy.
Anne Rice- Uh... stopped at Blood and Gold, but never read any of those second vampire series (Armand, etc.) Not on auto buy anymore. Yay.
Janet Evanovich- Actually still like her. Just wish Stephanie would choose a man. On auto buy.
What I'm reading now? Charlaine Harris' Living Dead In Dallas... just started it but it's another that I'll have to add the list of autobuys way after the romance is over. I hate to lose that lovin' feelin'.
