Random Thoughts...Stolen Magic
I have discovered I really enjoyed making my new template, even though it can be highly frustrating finding the perfect illustrations online. I think I may keep making them so everyone can enjoy a pretty template.
Husband has gone shopping for yogurt, not sure exactly what he has planned, but I do like to let my imagination wander.

So I finished Stolen Magic and found that I liked it about at a c-. The beginning was kind of jarring for me because it started off pretty quickly with the magic. Probably because I hadn't read the previous book.
In this book human's with magical powers are called Guardians. Simon Malmain, Earl of Falconer is a Guardian who enforces guardian law. Simon is on routine mission in the beginning of the book to strip the magic from Lord Drayton, a rogue Guardian who his used his power in nefarious ways (encouraging the Jacobite rising among them). When Simon attempts to strip magic from him, Drayton performs a transformation spell, turning Simon into a unicorn and attempting to kill him to gain the power of his unicorn horn. It is believed that Drayton should not have such powers, but apparently Drayton is sucking the power from other mages.
Drayton's guards happen to have a virgin to capture the unicorn. But the virgin, Meg, is really one of Drayton's mages from which he is funneling power. Together Simon and Meg attempt to bring Drayton to justice only to find that the past prejudices against Simon's father allow Drayton to escape from justice again. Here's where I have problem with this story: Simon claimed to have evidence of Drayton's wrong-doing when he first apprehended him and Drayton even admits to his crimes, yet he offered none of this evidence at Drayton's trial. Humans with magic are threatened by Drayton's ability to draw magic from them to make himself powerful and that threat is lingering. Simon and Meg need to find those that are thralled by Drayton to reduce his power and most importantly to free the poor thralls.
The mystical attraction between the virgin and the unicorn is unique from my reading experience and some what sexy. I didn't find much that pulled Simon and Meg together except that link. The inconsistencies in Simon's pursuit, evidence and prosecution attempt of Drayton may have ruined this story for me. If Simon had enough evidence to strip Drayton's power in the beginning why did it have to go to trial when he failed? And why didn't Simon just present the evidence instead of defending his actions?
